A lot of people are afraid of getting too passionate about the bible. They don’t want to be religious. They don’t want to be a bible thumper. But the Word of God is amazing! The Word reveals the author to me! It shows me his ways and His nature. I read the Word of God to know the God of the Word. It’s so important to stay rooted in the Word.
If you are reading the bible to know Him, you can’t go wrong! It isn’t about loading up on revelation to bash people with. It is to meet the author. Don’t be afraid to read your bible. Don’t be afraid to memorize verses. Don’t be afraid to think the Bible, speak the Bible, eat the Bible, and drink the bible! If you want to know Jesus intimately, discover who you are, and walk in the supernatural. . . READ YOUR BIBLE!
Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law, he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked. . . but his delight is in the word of the lord and on His word he meditates day and night. Rather than running to the media or whatever the world says, run to the WORD of God. A lot of times our first response in the midst of “issues” or “success” is to “talk” with all our friends about it. But this passage is essentially saying, instead of getting counsel from the world, get counsel from the Word. Delight in His words and Instructions.
How can you be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither? Meditate on His Word.
Remember Jesus said, “If you continue in my Word, you will truly be my disciple.”
If we want to walk in the anointing and bear fruit we have to be men and women of the Word. The bible is the Word of God. It isn’t just a history book or a guide on how to be a Christian. It literally contains the very words from the mouth of God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
When we know the Word, we will know Him. The Word is our intimate connection to God. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But He has left us a gift to know Him. The trinity isn’t Father, Son, and Holy Bible. But the Father spoke the Word, Jesus is the Word and Holy Spirit glorifies and reveals the Word! The Word is very important and powerful.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
The Word cuts and divides my life to line up with the Word. My life and beliefs aren’t pottered by my circumstances or what the world tells me, but by the word of God in my heart. If you want to be like the world then let your thinking be dictated by the words of the world. If you want to be like Jesus then let your thinking be dictated by the Word of God. I don’t read my bible to get a message, I read my bible to BE a message.
Graham Cooke “The world won’t read their bibles, but they will read their Christians.”
James 1:22-25 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
The Word is the key to intimacy and fruitfulness.
Here are four practical tips to help you read the Word. Maybe you have struggled to understand the word or to be passionate about it. Maybe it has felt boring or you can’t grasp what some stories mean. Ask Holy Spirit to help you. He will lead you into all truth. Ask him to open your eyes and heart to see.
One: meditate on the Word. We don’t have to read it like a book. Instead of feeling like you have to read a whole book in a sitting, spend time meditating on one verse. chew on one verse. Often I have spent 6 months to a year meditating on a single verse.
Two: submerge in the Word. Sit down and read a whole book in one sitting. It’s like standing under a waterfall. You just totally submerge into it.
Three: pray read the Word. Read it out loud. The word is meant to be read out loud.
Four: find Jesus in the Word! From Genesis to Revelation it’s about Him! The Word will come to life! When I read the bible I find Jesus. Find Him in the Bible and it will come alive to you! Look for Him in every story, but also look to experience His tangible presence as you read.
