Tasting His Goodness

God is good. Period. All our understanding and theology of God must be seen through the lens of Him being extravagantly good, because His goodness is the cornerstone of His character and nature.

Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

The Hebrew word for good in the above passage means: pleasant, agreeable to the senses and pleasant to the higher nature, giving pleasure, happiness and prosperity.

God’s goodness is agreeable to the senses. His goodness is meant to be experienced by our sight, taste, smell, touch and hearing. As Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

God is good and He desires for us to experience His goodness. He is delighted to overwhelm our whole being with His goodness. His goodness gives life, pleasure, happiness and prosperity to your spirit, soul and body.

God only has good for us and today He is smiling over us and inviting us to experience His goodness. He says, “Taste and see that I am good.”

1 John 1:5  says, “God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”

Ephesians 5:9 says, “the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.”

The fruit of the light is good, righteous and true, therefore the fruit of the darkness is bad, sin and deception. If God is light and there is no darkness in Him, then He can not give anything that is from the darkness. He can only give what is from the light.

As James 1:17 says, “every good and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

God is light, so God is good. All He has to give you is good and perfect things.

I remember one day when I was just starting my walk with Christ, my mind was flooded with all kinds of thoughts. I felt anxious and couldn’t find any peace. I was struggling to figure out if the thoughts were my thoughts, God’s thoughts, or the devil’s thoughts. In my moment of confusion I looked up and asked, “God, is this you?” and in response I simply heard, “Is it good?”

This one question can sort out all kinds of confusion when it comes to God’s nature and character. Is sickness good, or is health good? Is sin good, or righteousness good? Is poverty good, or prosperity good? Is pride good, or is humility good?

With any thing that comes into your life get in the practice of asking: IS IT GOOD?

REFLECTION:

What if God’s goodness is to be experienced with all your senses?  What would it look like for you to taste God’s goodness? Can you think of a time when you have experienced His goodness in your life?
