I want to encourage you during this season to stay anchored in Jesus and His Kingdom. We are in the midst of a politically and religiously charged environment in our nation. These two agendas are actually two Spirits! They work to undermine and attack the agenda of Christ and His Kingdom.
You want to know the difference between the Political spirit, religious spirit, and the Spirit of God? The religious spirit values principles above the person of Jesus. The political spirit values public opinions above the person of Jesus. The Holy Spirit values the presence and the person of Jesus above everything.
The political spirit and the religious spirit have one big thing in common. The fear of man. If we live our lives catering to the religious spirit and political spirit we will be liked by many, but we won’t change or transform anything. The only spirit who can truly transform our world is the Spirit of God. What would happen if we lived our lives catering to Him and living from Christ’s Kingdom?
In the face of the political spirit: “Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.” Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”” John 18:36-37 NASB1995
Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world! Everything about it is different. If we are ignorant of this, we will begin to fight about many things. And look to natural means to gain influence. Things like government and politics.
We are called to live from a different dimension. You may have voted red or you may have voted blue. But at the end of the day we are not red or blue. We are not even United States citizens. We are citizens of Heaven. We are children of God. I am here to remind you that we do not live from this dimension! We are from a different reality. A different kingdom!
No matter the outcome of this election Jesus is King! He is enthroned! You voted for Trump? Remember Jesus is King! You voted for Biden? Jesus is king! Nothing removes Him from His enduring place of authority!
I love that we have the privilege to vote to elect officials in our nation. That’s awesome! I vote every time. But there is a greater privilege we have for our nation and world. In this moment and every moment! Prayer!
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 NASB1995
Voting does have natural power. But prayer has more power. Prayer has supernatural power. In prayer we converse with the King! We bring His kingdom to earth as it is in heaven. We can vote and do our part in this society. But ultimately Jesus is King and we are called to bring His kingdom values and policies to earth!
“and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians 1:19-23 NASB1995
Our King wasn’t elected by votes! He was put in place by resurrection! It was the Father’s will and desire to put Him as head above every authority! He rose from the dead and the Father exalted Him above every name that is named in this age and in every age to come!
“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:31-33 NASB1995
Don’t worry about tomorrow’s outcome! Cast off the anxiety of who will be president for 4 years. Seek first the kingdom. Live from the kingdom. Find your anchor of hope in another world. His Kingdom supersedes this dimension! It is a greater reality! He and His kingdom is Spirit, meaning it exists outside of this dimension and has the power to influence this one. We are constrained to the three dimensions of space and the one dimension of time. But He exists outside it! He is not constrained to space and time. He doesn’t see what we see or move how we move. We think linear. He sees the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning. He weaves in and out of our time. His Kingdom isn’t bound by our time. It is a Kingdom from another dimension. A Kingdom living from the Spirit of God. We are connected to the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead 2000 years ago. We are connected to the same Spirit that hovered over the earth when it was without form. We are connected to the same Spirit that breathed life into Adam. Time does not hold Him. The Kingdom also isn’t a space. We think low and high and wide. But His Kingdom isn’t a space. It is a realm. It is a dimension unhindered and bound by this one. His Kingdom isn’t held by boundaries and government lines.
We are to seek first the kingdom. We stand on His will and unleash it in our world. I care about political Policies. I have kingdom convictions that reflect in the way I vote. But ultimately I know and live from something greater. I live with the conviction of God! His eternal kingdom! Jesus!
Isaiah 9:6-7 NASB1995 “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.”
First thing I see here is, Jesus was born and given TO us! He came to us and for us. His enduring agenda is us. His people! His possession. His reward!
In natural government we elect men and women in hopes that they have God and the people in mind with the decisions they make. We all have these passions about agendas and policies that work good for the people. But more often than not their agendas fall flat. They fail us. The Father gave Jesus to us. He gave Him because He loves us. Genuinely and truly. His entire mission was and is us. Jesus came to release His Father’s will! He came to seek and save us. He makes every decision with His people in mind and heart.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32 NASB1995
The Father delivered Jesus to death for us! Adam was put to sleep and God formed Eve from His side. Jesus was put to death and His side was pierced to form us as a spirit bride! Now that we have received Christ we have received all things! We don’t have to riot or protest for favor! We don’t have to vote to make sure we are heard. We are heard! Load and clear. He gives us all things in Christ! Every blessing! Every promise! True justice! True life!
Right now Jesus invites us to rest In Him. To rest in the gift we have been given. Jesus our King! Trust in Him and all the provision and blessing found there. All our needs met there.
Secondly, this passage in Isaiah says the government of God rests on His shoulders! Christ rules and He reigns! The entire universe is held together by the word of His power. Every atom in the universe is sustained by His presence. Our very ability to live, move and have our being is from His power. He sustains all.
“For the kingdom is the LORD ’ S And He rules over the nations.” Psalms 22:28 NASB1995
The kingdom is His and He rules the nations! Elections come and go. But Jesus stands. Men and women are elected to govern america. But the entire government of God rests on Him! Who governs the world? Who governs the spirit realm? Who governs the entire natural universe? Jesus!
Right now Jesus invites us to rest in His government. He holds everything together on His shoulders. Cast off every weight and heavy thing that clings to you. Come to Him and let the government rest on His shoulders. Let Him take the yoke!
The third thing I see is His name is wonderful counselor.
“But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,” 1 Corinthians 1:30 NASB1995
Jesus is the wisdom of God! No political party or political figure in the entire world holds what He holds. The counsel of God! The wisdom of God manifest. He himself contains all knowledge and wisdom. He is wonder full! He himself is the word of God. The very mind of God revealed. The character and nature of God embodied. He is the greatest King.
“The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” Matthew 12:42 NASB1995
The queen of the south traveled across the world to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Upon hearing his wisdom and seeing how he governed she was rendered speechless! She wondered and stood in awe! But Jesus is greater then Solomon. He is King of kings and Lord of lords! Solomon had a crumb of wisdom from the King’s table. He is the wisest government leader that will ever be.
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 NASB1995
We are blessed to have wisdom as our king. We can all come boldly and freely to Him to find wisdom for every situation and circumstance we face! Right now Jesus is inviting us as His people to ask Him for wisdom. To not lean on our own understanding. But to rest in His voice. God is releasing a hearing ear over His people. That we would carry wisdom to the world around us. Releasing wisdom to a confused world. We are called to walk wise in the times!
Fourth thing Isaiah 9 says is He is mighty God! Some righteous men and women who govern earthly nations lean upon the mighty God to lead. But Jesus Himself is mighty God! How wonderful that our King is God. He is creator! He is our maker. He cares for us like no other because He knows us like no other. He renders true justice to all.
“Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert what is right?” Job 8:3 NASB1995
He knows every need of every person and renders justice and judgment for every case brought before Him. Men and women fight for a seat at the table of a governing leader. They enter giving competitions to have dinner with the president. Politicians bribe and fight to get needs met for the people through legislation. But hallelujah our governing leader is God. He lets all come unto Him. Every man, woman, and child can draw near in prayer and let their requests be made known to God.
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 NASB1995
He not only hears but He answers! He loves to meet every need. He meets every need and releases justice on every sorrow far better than any politician ever could because He is God and He is good.
“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19 NASB1995
Everything He promises He fulfills! He doesn’t have empty worlds. His word created our world. He speaks and does not lie. He is true because He is mighty God.
“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:7-8 NASB1995
Right now God is calling us as His people to submit to Him. He is God. We must stay under the mighty hand of God. As we walk submitted to God His might is released through us! Power of darkness and the enemy! Stay under the shadow of His wings where there is healing and power. He is calling us to release the power and might of our God to the world around us! Manifest His supernatural might! Expect a move of His power through you.
He is eternal father! Is trump your daddy? Is Biden your daddy? No! But Jesus is our eternal father! He loves us and cherishes us because we are His children. We are His family. He is our perfect Father. No good thing does He withhold.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalms 84:11 NASB1995
“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” James 1:17 NASB1995
He only has good to give! He does not shift or change like politicians. He is not double minded. He isn’t a flip flopped. He is God and He is our father. He gives us good.
““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:7-11 NASB1995
If men who are evil give good things to their children, how much more will our eternal Father? He loves us and he is for us. He has far better answers and solutions then any man has. He loves to be involved in our life and situations.
Right now God is inviting us to be Fathered by Him. We aren’t alone. He invites us to release the love of the Father to those around us. As we lean into Him in prayer we become carriers of the love we receive. This is the time to walk in His love and share it with those around us.
Isaiah 9 says He is the prince of peace. His presence propels peace! Peace is carried in His voice. Peace that transcends every storm! He is the binder of chaos and calamity! He leads in peace. He leads, He doesn’t drive! He doesn’t push! He guides. He governs with peace. Peace is the culture of His domain. Peace is the evidence of His Presence!
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NASB1995
We don’t have to be anxious about anything. We can come and bring everything to Him in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving! And His peace will govern us! His prescription for peace is prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. If we are operating out of anxiety it is a sign that we aren’t bringing everything to Him. It’s a sign that our faith and hope is in the wrong kingdom.
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27 NASB1995
““Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 NASB1995
God is inviting us to carry His peace in every circumstance. To be carriers of His kingdom peace! To be peacemakers! Not peace keepers. Peace keepers are governed by the fear of man. Peacemakers actually release peace in every situation.
Lastly, His Kingdom of peace will know no end!
“How great are His signs And how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom And His dominion is from generation to generation.” Daniel 4:3 NASB1995
Christ and His kingdom endures. His kingdom knows no end! All others fail and fall. But His goes on.
“He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.” ’ ” 1 Chronicles 17:12-14 NASB1995
God promised David that Jesus would come and rule forever. Jesus is established! He built a house and established a kingdom that will not end! We are that house. We are that kingdom. Enduring for over 2000 years! 2.5 billion citizens! Over 30% of the world population! We have soldiers in every nation! Bases and embassies on every continent. It is a kingdom without end. Nothing can stop this kingdom and it’s expansion. It is built by revelation of Jesus! It advances by revelation of Jesus!
“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”” Matthew 16:16-19 NASB1995
Upon the rock of the revelation of Jesus the church is built and the keys of the kingdom are released! Things are bound and loosed in His name! Nothing can overpower us! On this rock we remain!
I encourage you to seek the kingdom and release the Kingdom! Rest in Jesus, stand in His government, seek His wisdom, be fathered by Him, and carry His peace! Jesus is King!
