The Great Commission Still Stands
In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives His final command to His followers:
“Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”
This is not just a suggestion—it’s a mandate. It’s the mission Jesus entrusted to His church. But in America today, we face a crisis that threatens to derail this mission.
The Crisis in America
Next year, the United States will mark 250 years since its founding. Yet, despite our nation’s rich history, we are witnessing a spiritual and cultural collapse. Our government is failing. Mental health crises, suicide rates, and drug addiction are at all-time highs. What was once a prosperous Christian nation is now overwhelmed by pagan ideologies that directly oppose the way of Jesus.
These destructive beliefs are tearing apart families, targeting our youth, and infiltrating even the church. False doctrine and apostasy are rampant. People are lost, and the American church is weak.
Research from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University reveals that while 69% of U.S. adults identify as Christian, only 6% actually hold a biblical worldview and live according to biblical principles. This means the vast majority of self-identified Christians are not truly following Jesus’ teachings.
We Need a Return to Jesus’ Original Command
The deficits in our culture are clear. We need:
• Maturity in the church
• A harvest of souls in America
• A return to the Great Commission
It’s time for a reformation—a return to God’s original intent. The only generation that can reach this generation is our generation. We are alive in this moment because God has entrusted this mission to us. If we do nothing, we will get nothing. But if we rise up, we can see transformation!
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer said:
“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”
America Needs Discipleship, Not Just Events
What America needs isn’t more Christian organizations, massive events, or flashy programs. America needs discipleship. It needs people who will reach people.
When Jesus ministered, He didn’t try to reach everyone at once. He handpicked twelve and poured into them for three years. He invested deeply in a small group, equipping them to carry the mission forward. His strategy was multiplication, not just conversion.
And His plan worked!
Armed with the Great Commission, the disciples spread the Gospel across the world. In just ten years after Jesus’ ascension, thousands of disciples were made, and Christianity spread like wildfire.
Multiplication Is the Key
Paul reinforces this principle in 2 Timothy 2:2:
“Teach faithful men and women who are able to teach others.”
The key to multiplying disciples is investing in faithful people who will then invest in others. The church isn’t meant to be built on a few leaders doing all the work—it’s meant to be a movement where every believer takes responsibility for making disciples.
Everyone Has a Role to Play
The Bible is clear: every believer is part of the body of Christ, and each of us has a role to play in the Great Commission.
“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…”
Romans 12:4-8
“For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-14
We may have different gifts and callings, but we share the same mission—to preach the Gospel and make disciples.
The Power of One-on-One Discipleship
In a healthy, biblical church, everyone is responsible for making disciples. If you committed to discipling just three people—teaching them to follow Jesus and equipping them to disciple others—imagine the impact! This model leads to exponential multiplication.
Jesus gave us a simple yet powerful method:
1. Invest in a few
2. Live life together
3. Equip them to do the same
This is how the early church grew, and this is how we will see true revival today.
Who Will You Disciple?
Who are the people in your life who are close to you but far from God? Who will sit in your living room but would never step into a church?
You have been given a mission. Let’s commit today to follow Jesus’ master plan—one relationship at a time.
Let’s rise up and make disciple-making disciples!
