Signs Following

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”” ‭Mark‬ ‭16:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Signs follow those who believe. It doesn’t say signs follow evangelists or really special anointed people. It says that signs follow those who believe! God has called us to this. 

Natural signs indicate seasons. Supernatural signs indicate our faith.

When I first started really going after signs following I had no staff position at a church and I worked physical labor. Quickly the religious knew, the lost knew, my coworkers knew, and the neighborhood knew. 

One heresy hunting pastor in the area used me as an example in his sermons. One minister said I was a sorcerer. Another pastor mocked me and a healing service I planned, publicly at their Sunday service. People in the community posted about their healings on social media. My coworkers called me the Jesus guy and said “when you pray stuff happens” My neighbors in the area where I prayer walked called me the “praying man” and would seek me out for a miracle. 

There is meant to be a sign (evidence) of our belief! As disciples of Jesus, as daughters and sons, there is a mark and a sign, upon us. It’s the power of God that destroys hell! The early believers began to be called Christians (little Christ’s) because they looked like him in purity and power. Everywhere they went they did the same signs that He did. 

Nature signs aren’t an indicator of maturity. Little immature trees have signs of the season and so do big mature trees. It is simply an evidence of the season. We can look to the signs of leafs changing or fruit budding and see the evidence of the seasons. In the same way signs that follow the believer aren’t a indication of maturity. They are simply signs that bring evidence to the unseen. Every single believer is intended to have signs. Whether you are 5 days saved or 50 years saved. The maturity of the tree doesn’t matter. Signs will follow all who believer! 

God intends for us to grow up into maturity in Christ. But the supernatural signs of God can operate in the immature and mature. Two things to take note of with this. One, it instills courage! Courage to go after it. Because the good news is God isn’t waiting for you to grow up before you can have signs following you. But two, it instills humility. Because the amount of signs that follow you have zero weight on your maturity. Signs are nothing to be prideful about. They are simply evidence of an unseen world. 

The world needs a company of believers that have signs that follow! The darkness demands it! Jesus paid for it! 

Jesus has called us to press into healing, deliverance, and the breakthroughs in the spirit! To be a company of believers with the evidence of signs! Why? To destroy the works of the devil! 

We want to be ones who cultivate intimacy and conformity to His image. But also His power, anointing, and authority that breaks the yoke of demonic bondage on people’s lives!

So many things in our culture we have deemed physical and normal. Like sickness, mental health issues, lust, sexual perversion and sexual identity confusion, addictions, bitterness. But all these things are demonic works of darkness. Many people in our society right now are literally walking around demonically possessed and we are deeming it normal. Pop culture and media has desensitized us to the demonic. 

People don’t need to be loved in their darkness, they need to be set free from it. We must bring solutions to the bondage around us. 

“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew‬ ‭10:7-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We need power and are commanded to carry signs of Healing, Deliverance, and Salvation. Street signs point people to things. These Spirit signs point people to Him.

“Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:1‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

We are called to eagerly desire spiritual gifts! Not for the sake of building a ministry. Not for the sake of having cool testimonies. Not for the sake of building a cool YouTube channel with deliverance and healing videos. But for the sake of breaking the heavy yoke of the devil! To see the power of darkness broken over people’s lives! When love is our pursuit the gifts will be a result! When love is our foundation, the gifts find their operation. Our motivation and compelling, is love! A love for the lost and broken! 

““The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. But you shall be named the priests of the Lord, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast. Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs. “For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, And will make with them an everlasting covenant. Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles, And their offspring among the people. All who see them shall acknowledge them, That they are the posterity whom the Lord has blessed.” I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.” Isaiah‬ ‭61:1-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The anointing of God’s spirit upon us comes with purpose! It isn’t to build a brand. It isn’t to grow service attendance. It isn’t to have a nice church renewal or get tingles in worship. It is to preach the good news to the poor! It is to cast out demons! To heal the sick! To comfort the hurting. To break the power of the devil! To transform lives out of the desolation of generational poverty! 

The anointing breaks the yoke and heavy burden of sin, sickness, and demonic torment! We are designed to expand His kingdom and destroy the works of the devil.

All the works of the enemy that bind people are to be broken! This happens by the anointing of the Spirit! 

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts‬ ‭10:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The result of the anointing of the Holy Spirit and power upon Jesus was doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil! There was a clear evidence and sign of His anointing and power. We must carry His presence and power! The world needs Him. 

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is why Jesus came! And it is why we are still here! It’s why we aren’t just sucked up to Heaven right when we believe! We are saved for a mission! 

Our purpose is to put on his image! Our assignment is to destroy hell! We must embrace our discipleship purpose to look more and more like Jesus. This is a lifelong journey. But on that journey let’s walk in our assignment to destroy hell now! We don’t have to wait for perfection to participate in His mission. Signs will follow those who believe!
